If you’re headed out on a road trip this spring, be sure to take some time to review these spring travel tips to ensure safe travels.
Travel Around Your Kid’s Nap Time
If you’re traveling with kids, you know how distracting it can be when they’re not having a good time. As opposed to just packing everyone up to travel whenever you can, schedule your road trip during their nap time. Not only do car rides easily lull most children to sleep, if you can make nap-time align with road-trip-time it’ll make the ride much more peaceful and distraction-free for the driver.
Bring Cash
Cash is accepted everywhere, and if a gas station’s credit card machines are down then you need to be able to pay somehow. Remove the need for searching around unfamiliar areas for an ATM, or for another gas station, and just prepare ahead with a little bit of cash in the wallet.
Vehicle Maintenance Check-Up
Have your local Maryland auto repair shop look over your vehicle before any long road trip. This way, if there are any issues which would prevent a safe arrival at your destination, your Maryland mechanic will recognize those and fix them for you. Better to be safe than sorry.
Stay Awake
We understand the desire to make the trip in one go, so be sure you can stay awake. While many folks will believe this means packing a thermos of coffee or a few energy drinks, sometimes it means staying properly hydrated with an adequate amount of water. Not drinking enough water can lead to a tired feeling, and drinking coffee or energy drinks to combat the tiredness can actually exacerbate the problem. So, to stay awake, remember to stay hydrated!
Check the Weather Ahead of Time
Before heading out, check the weather. Driving in the rain is really not fun, and to top it all off weather causes traffic congestion. If you know it’s about to rain, and the rain is going to last for about an hour, just wait the storm out and go later. It’s a safer choice, and you won’t spend an extra 10 minutes on the road due to traffic.
