3 Vehicle Maintenance Items You Cannot Ignore

Updated: Aug 6, 2021

If you get your oil changed and your tires rotated regularly, then you’re in good shape. There are no other regular maintenance tasks you need to have performed on your vehicle. You’re safe. Right? Not necessarily. There are many aspects of your vehicle that will need your attention on a semi-regular basis. Let’s take a look at 3 that you absolutely cannot ignore.

Cabin and Engine Air Filters

When you get your oil changed, your mechanic will usually ask you if you also want to have your filters changed out. Though many people overlook this, changing your filters is a simple and easy way to keep your vehicle running smoothly. Your engine air filter helps keep your fuel system free of dust and other particles, which helps it perform better. You can even improve your fuel economy when you replace your engine air filter. Now, your cabin air filter, is responsible for filtering out dust and other particles from your car’s interior. Make sure to switch that one out regularly to breathe cleaner air while you drive.

Belts

There are a ton of belts inside of your car that keep everything running smoothly. Your serpentine belt, for example, is a belt that powers your alternator, power steering, and other important components. When this belt fails, it can leave you stranded in the middle of your commute without your alternator. To avoid this, just make sure your mechanic takes a look at it during your next oil change.

Another belt that may need your attention is the timing belt. This belt is responsible for essential processes with your engine, so don’t let it go out on you! Once again, just have your mechanic take a look and make sure that everything is in order.

Transmission Fluid

If you drive a vehicle with an automatic transmission, then you’ll need to keep up with your automatic transmission fluid. When ATF gets old, it can thicken and cause clogs and build-up throughout the system. Before this can happen, get it checked out and flush it if need be.
